Battery does not charge

So far loving PinguyOS. My setup is a brand new ThinkPad Edge E435. I was able to find drivers for the ATI dual-card graphics array (SLI) and the broadcomm wireless adapter, so all in all things humm along nicely on 8GB RAM and the new AMD quad-core A8(4500). The only problems so far are suspend and battery charging (will start a new thread on suspend).

Battery problems.
After installing the 64bit version of PinguyOS 12.10, the battery seamed to charge properly. Granted power management is a bit lacking in Ubuntu overall and there was no real way to tweak performance, but regardless I was able to squeeze out 2-3 hours of working time between charges.
After @ 10 full charges (and discharges) I am now unable to charge the battery again within Pinguy.
- The power panel of the system settings sits at 30% with no estimated time of finished charging
- When unplugging the power cord and subsequently plugging it in again, the panel recalculates to 13 hours until charged but then loses that estimation and just sits at 'charging' again
- The battery charges fine when not powered up or when booted into a live environment (eliminating hardware problems)
- All system updates are performed with no errors
- I installed ACPI from the command line (a thread in ubunutu forum suggested this) to no avail
It appears that the software package governing power management has stopped functioning and I have no idea where to even start to repair it. I am comfortable with the command line and have been looking around the net for answers for a few days now. Most of the solutions offered are a couple years old or do not work when I try them.

Any ideas?
