Windows in activities overview not responding

Hi,
I think I broke something in the shell yesterday while I was trying to solve the issue of Jdownloader 2 constantly stealing focus everytime it grabs a link Sad

Basically now everytime I go into Overview (with the hotcorner or the super-key) while having some windows opened, afterwards I cant select any of those windows with the mouse. They are there in "expose" view but I cant select any of them (I can close them though by means of clicking or the red X, so mouse functionality is partially working). Launching applications from the search bar or the Applications view is working but the newly launched apps' windows do not appear in the Windows view.

Moreover I cant exit the overview anymore in any way so I'm completely stuck there. The only way I found out of this mess is to constantly restart the shell (there might be others but I'm quite the noob).

These are the commands I launched yesterday:

gconftool-2 --get /apps/metacity/general/no_focus_windows
gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/no_focus_windows --type string "(not true)"
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows 'strict'

I also installed dconf-tools and gconf-editor, opened various schemas with them but I didnt change anything (at least I'm 99% sure I didnt change anything).

After realising the problem I tried to revert to default by means of
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/metacity/general/no_focus_windows
gsettings reset-recursively org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences

but to no avail Sad
If anybody has a clue about this and is able to sort this mess out, pls lend me a helping hand here.

Thanks in advance
Tahini
