Hello Everyone!
Why I am posting...I am having a rough time with this computer I have. It is a Lenovo G500 laptop which came preinstalled with Windows 8 and had UEFI. I disabled UEFI and installed Windows 7 after removing Windows 8 and have been messing around with Linux operating systems. I am not really a "distro hopper". I have had a ton of Linux OS's installed on this computer, not because I don't like them, but because this computer has been rejecting them. Either they don't boot up to install them, or they don't come with WLAN drivers for my wireless card and its been a pain in my rear. I came across this Fantastic Operating system that installed and had my WLAN driver. Although I quickly found out the default kernel that 12.04 LTS comes with is the very one that locks up my system and random points. So I am forced to install a new kernel which I installed kernel 3.12.6(I think). My problem is, just about every application I use in Pinguy crashes, constantly. I also couldn't update the system, until I went into the software sources and disabled the ones that were failing and then I was able to update. BUT then things just got worse. Docky would freeze up and crash and applications wouldn't stay open long enough for me to even look at them to see what they look like, let alone use them.
I also gave Pinguy os 13.10 a shot, but I couldn't open up ubuntu software center because it would crash every time I open it. Also, additional drivers app wasn't included and my WLAN doesn't function properly without the proprietary driver installed.
I really like this OS, but I can't use it with this many issues. Maybe it is kernel 3.12.6? Is there a better kernel for me to install? Is there a solution for these problems? I'm tired of jumping OS's just to find one that is going to work for my computer, and I really thought I had found it when I was using Pinguy.
And I really DON'T want to go back to Windows. I hate Windows!!!!
Thanks!
