Problem with Samsung ML-2165W Laser Printer

I have a new Samsung ML-2165W printer which I attached via USB to my Packard Bell Easynote NS laptop, running Pinguy 12.04. It was recognised and when output was sent for printing, messages appeared on screen saying it was printing followed by saying the printing was finished - BUT - no printing had occurred not even a blank sheet of paper. I could not even get it to print a test page from from the computer.
The printer is OK as it prints fine from Windows 7. Can anybody help?
