Building with the Dist option doesn't include all users

Hi,
I'm currently in the process of building a Kiosk system based on xubuntu 16.04 and stumbled upon pinguybuilder for ISO creation. I have a three user setup. One user for management and on user as the placeholder for the settings for the third user the guest user. I need all users included in the ISO. Is that possible?

Missing mdm.conf in Linux Mint 17.3

I found a little bug with pinguybuilder and Linux Mint 17.3 that is easy to reproduce and maybe easy to fix in a next version!?:

After remastering the system there is the file "mdm.conf" in /etc/mdm missing, IF the user choosed password-login at first install instead of auto-login!

This makes that Mint-X is the default login-screen and the user is not able to switch between different login-screens in mdm-manager!

IF the user choosed "autologin" at install (in ubiquity-installer) he will get this file and can switch between different mdm-login-screen-themes (in mdm-manager) like in every other Linux Mint too.

I got this "phenomen" with more than 20 different isos i made with pinguy-builder!

It'ś just easy to fix if there is the file mdm.conf in /etc/mdm if the user choosed password-login at his first install of the remastered system (like pinguy-builder does if the user choosed autologin!).

A recommend configuration-file for mdm.conf is following entries:

Code:
[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=false
AutomaticLogin=studio
TimedLoginEnable=false
TimedLogin=studio                            #replace "studio" with your user-name
TimedLoginDelay=10
Greeter=/usr/lib/mdm/mdmgreeter

[greeter]
GraphicalTheme=FreeSansGrrl
HTMLTheme=Mint-X

Now the mdm-login-manager is ready to switch between differet screens!

It's easy for advanced users to make this file as root once and it's no really "bug" because the system works and a (standard Linux Mint) Login-screen appears.

And everybody can prevent this (if he/she knows!) by doing "autologin" at first install.

But it would be nicer (for novice users) if they get a system where the mdm-loginscreen-manager is always working and not depending on which login-way they choosed at first install.

Maybe in a next version of pinguybuilder!?!?

[solved]Backup ISO doesn't contain an installer

Hi,

I just completed <code># sudo PinguyBuilder backup</code> an tried the ISO in VBox. It starts just fine but there is no way to install the System. Is that by design or a bug?

Best regards

Found it but doesn't work. You have to manually run <code># sudo sh -c 'ubiquity gtk_ui'</code> to start the install process.

CPU at 100%

I just instaled this on a 2.2Ghz 2 Gb Ram. This computer's processor can't support windows 10. It had windows 7 on it before. Pinguy is running slower than windows 7 was. A LOT slower.

The CPU is running at 100% all the time. Even when sitting there doing nothing. Even scrolling down in firefox is clunky, not smooth at all.

Can I lighten the load? Also I'd like to get rid of this thing on the desktop on the right side with all the information on it. I don't like it.

Question Learning About Linux Kernel

Hey Guys I'm starting to learn more about Linux Kernel - When it comes to PinguyOs 14.04 or even distros in general - is there any reason or any cautions to be concerned about in upgrading to the newest Kernel? Is it cool to upgrade PingyOs 14.04 to the newest kernel? Thanks in advance

No install option in grub menu / install failure when forced

$

I know the following question has been raised before, but I don't seem to be able to find a clear, precise answer to it.

In the original remastersys code, creating a "Backup" with an existing user produced an ISO with an "install" option in the grub menu. Those original forks no longer work with Ubuntu 16.04LTS, but PinguyBuilder does (great!).

However, PinguyBuilder has removed the "install" option from the grub menu. It's possible to "force" it by editing the appropriate file (/etc/PinguyBuilder/isolinux/isolinux.cfg.vesamenu), but when I do this and create an ISO with "Backup", the installer starts OK but eventually fails out with an error.

I gather from other threads that this option was removed on purpose specifically because of this, but I was hoping someone could tell me (1) what exactly is causing the installer to fail in this manner, and (2) whether there is a planned fix, or if there is something fundamental that has changed that will prevent this method of installation indefinitely.

Thanks!

grub install fails

I created an install disk based on a Linux Mint 18 distro with pinguy. The install works fine until the bootloader (grub) has to be written to the selected location. A dialog opens saying that grub can't be written to the location selected an I am asked to select another location. Since there is only one drive available, there is no other location.
When I install from the original Linux Mint 18 CD everything works fine. How can I diagnose and possibly fix this?

Doesn't produce an installable Mint 18 xfce

Sorry for the double post, I originally posted it in the wrong area.

pinguybuilder_4.3-8_all-beta.deb produced a Mint 18 xfce iso no problem and the live cd works, but, it stalls during installation. I tried creating the iso on two different computers. I even tried creating an iso from a freshly installed OS that the only thing I did was install Pinguy Builder.

I wish I could provide more information as to what the problem is, but, it just stalls with no message.

I would be more than happy to donate to you again if you go to the trouble of fixing it.

backup install fail

Hi,

first thanks for the job you did !

I'm using pinguybuilder_4.3-8_all-beta.deb and no problem with the iso and iso installer.

But when I make a backup, there is no 'install release' on the desktop. (on Xubuntu 16.04)

There is one in the parameter, but it doesn't launch anything.

Anyone has the sh command, so I could check what is going on ?

Have a nice day.

Avoid updates when running ubiquity instalation

I'm an old user of Remastersys and now I'm using PinguyBuilder and I would like to thank you for the excelent job with this tool. But I have one doubt.

When I'm running the Ubiquity install process, everything goes fine but in part of
instalation process, The Installer try to "download files" (E.g downloading file 18 of 23 | download file 110 of 117) and installer is stuck in this phase until I click in the "skip" button. Looks like Ubiquity is doing downlod of some packages over the internet during his process of install. If I disable my internet conection, this problem do not occurs.

There is some configuration that can I perform in Ubiquity or in PinguyBuilder, to disable this "automatic-update" option when installing the OS?

I found in "/etc/PinguyBuilder/presses" the file "custom.seed"

I tried to edit custom.seed and I changed option:
#Enable extras.ubuntu.com
d-i apt-setup/extras bolean true
to
#Enable extras.ubuntu.com
d-i apt-setup/extras bolean false

But with no sucess. Do you guys have some solution for my issue?

P.s The options "download updates when install OS" and "Install third- party software for graphics and Wi-fi hardware, Flash, Mp3 and other media" is unchecked.

UEFI and Legacy Boot mode after installation

$

Hi everyone, I'm a new user to Pinguy OS. I'm wondering what would be the good practice to dual boot my Windows 10 with Pinguy. Here is the scenario.

I have a new laptop which was Windows 10 ready. It loads from the bios using UEFI boot as I understand it. My bios boot has two modes, UEFI and Legacy Support

I chose Pinguy OS to be my dual boot because the environment is good.
But I have accidentally installed it using the Legacy supprt mode.

For the summary, every time I switch OS, all I need is to change the BIOS boot mode for priority, either UEFI or Legacy SUpport.
For (UEFI), it loads Windows 10 directly and fine but when I chose (Legacy) it loads the option to choose from Pinguys OS and alongside with Windows ,but if I chose windows 10 here, it has an error.

So my question is, is it better for the Pinguy to be installed on Legacy Support boot mode? or
Delete the partition of it and install on the UEFI mode?
