Dock disappears in 14.04

hi, I just downloaded the latest version, and was running it live.

When I launched firefox, the dock disappeared and wouldn't come up anymore. I rebooted, same thing happened - it wouldn't pop up anymore after a program launch - even if I minimize, or if I close the program.

Is this a bug, or is there something I am supposed to know that I am not doing right?
